Portkey Is Now PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway

Portkey has been renamed PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway following its acquisition by Palo Alto Networks. The new name is now being used across Portkey’s website, with the product generally available to enterprises. Palo Alto Networks completed the acquisition of Portkey on May 29, 2026, and said Portkey’s AI Gateway technology would become part of its Prisma AIRS platform.

Portkey Becomes PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway

The Portkey website now carries the message “Portkey is now PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway” and positions the product as an enterprise AI gateway for observing, governing and securing AI interactions. The company says the service is designed to sit between AI applications, agents, model providers and tools.

The change follows Palo Alto Networks’ acquisition of Portkey. When the deal closed, Palo Alto Networks said Portkey would expand Prisma AIRS with a control layer for monitoring, orchestrating and governing autonomous AI agents.

What the AI Gateway Does

PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway provides a single layer for connecting applications with different AI models and providers. Portkey’s current documentation says the gateway can connect to more than 1,600 LLMs and providers through a unified API, while its broader platform supports more than 3,000 LLMs and AI interactions.

The gateway handles model routing, failover and access control. Teams can set rules for approved models and tools while tracking token usage, latency and costs from a central system.

Security and Governance

Security is a larger part of the product under Prisma AIRS. Palo Alto Networks says the gateway can inspect prompts and responses as AI requests move through the system, with controls designed to prevent sensitive information such as source code, credentials and customer data from leaving an organization. It also includes protections against prompt injection and other AI-related threats.

The system also introduces controls around agent identity. Palo Alto Networks says agents can receive verifiable and temporary identities, allowing organizations to restrict which actions an agent is permitted to perform instead of giving autonomous systems broad standing access.

Portkey Technology Moves Into Prisma AIRS

Palo Alto Networks announced the general availability of Prisma AIRS AI Gateway on July 16, 2026, about six weeks after completing the Portkey acquisition. The company said it had brought Portkey’s AI Gateway technology into Prisma AIRS as part of a broader enterprise AI security architecture.

Palo Alto Networks reported that its gateway architecture had processed more than 68 trillion tokens in the previous month, with sub-millisecond routing latency and 99.999% availability. These figures are company-reported measurements for the platform.

Portkey’s Existing Gateway Continues Under the New Brand

The change is not a separate replacement product built from scratch. The current PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway carries forward Portkey’s gateway capabilities, including unified model access, routing, observability, governance and guardrails, while adding them to Palo Alto Networks’ AI security platform.

Portkey had already been used as an AI gateway by development teams before the acquisition. Its current website says the platform is used by more than 3,000 GenAI teams and provides tools for monitoring AI requests, managing costs and controlling access to models and providers.

The name Portkey is now being phased out from the product identity as the technology becomes part of PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway. For enterprises already familiar with Portkey, the main change is the product’s place within Palo Alto Networks rather than the basic purpose of the gateway: providing a central layer through which AI applications and agents can be connected, monitored and controlled.
